Discovery Works
“Discover us, Discovering Discovery Works”…..
(thanks, John Mayer)
The Avon Lake Public Library is without question one of the most valuable community treasures within our city. Discovery Works is a huge part of that treasure, and they are making strides towards turning the space into something that is even more ground-breaking for all ages and all abilities. The walls of the library are truly a place where parents' generational relationships are fostered.
A Mastodon, a cave, and a lake life wall. Be part of Discovery!
Discovery Works is open to the public and an important extension of our community in the way that they have woven the history of Avon Lake into the fabric of everything that they do. The Mastodon was native to AL literally ages ago. So it’s going to become a new feature!
ALPL serves Avon Lake residents first and foremost, but Discovery Works is unique in that it is the only free museum-quality science center within a library within the state of Ohio. They are important to grapevine because they are one of the most important historical resources to the city of Avon Lake. They are a landmark for our city, a destination.
The ALPL are such wonderful stewards of their donations and support, so much so that they already have the funds to enhance the Discovery Works space, but they are giving community members and local businesses the opportunity to donate to this incredible project that fosters creativity and supports our local youth. Kids are the future, so the opportunity for every local Avon Lake community member to have the chance to be part of this “Initiative for Innovation” is huge. So you can be a big fish and join the Lake Life Wall club!
Why Now?
The space is nearly 30 years old and needs an upgrade. But rest assured, old favorites from the classic Discovery Works combine with new museum-quality exhibits and attractions that will bring with it the nostalgia of the geode exhibit, but they’re making it a cave……..cool.
